What is my Ideal Weight?

Excess weight is closely tied to many health problems including heart disease, stroke and
diabetes.  The following formula will help you calculate your maximum ideal weight.

Women:
  • Start at 5 feet and 100 lbs.
  • For every inch above 5 feet, add 5 lbs.
  • +/- 10% for bone structure or muscle mass (fat does not qualify as big boned).

For example, a woman 5'6" tall would start with 100lbs and add 5 lbs for every inch above 5
feet.  So, she would add 30 lbs (5lbs *6inches) to 100lbs to get 130 lbs.  If she has a small frame
she must subtract 13 lbs.  If she has a large frame she can add 13 lbs.  So her maximum ideal
weight is between 117lbs and 143lbs depending on frame.

Men:
  • Start at 5 feet and 105 lbs.
  • For every inch above 5 feet, add 6 lbs.
  • +/- 10% for bone structure or muscle mass (fat does not qualify as big boned).

For example, a man 5'10" tall would start with 105lbs and add 6 lbs for every inch above 5 feet.
So, he would add 60 lbs (6lbs *10inches) to 105lbs to get 165 lbs.  If he has a small frame he
must subtract 16 lbs.  If he has a large frame he can add 16 lbs.  So his maximum ideal weight is
between 149lbs and 181lbs, depending on frame.
